DOT, DICT to improve internet connectivity in 94 tourist destinations
Tourists may soon enjoy better internet connectivity in 94 destinations in the Philippines.
According to Ivan Mayrina's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, the Philippines has one of the slowest mobile internet speeds in Southeast Asia.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) plans to address this issue with the help of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
"Many of the tourists now are also vloggers so its critical that we provide them with internet connectivity so while they are there enjoying those experiences they can also be our marketing tool in propagating the message," said DICT Sec. Ivan Uy.
Aside from vloggers and content creators, digital nomads who work remotely or people who go on workation will also benefit from an improved internet connection in the Philippines.
Under the National Tourism Development Plan approved by President Bongbong Marcos, popular destinations such as Boracay, Baguio, Palawan, and Cebu will get faster and free internet connectivity.
Meanwhile, the DOT is set to unveil its new tourism slogan that will replace "It's more fun in the Philippines" in the coming weeks.
"We are putting forth the best of the best of the Philippines to the world because it cannot be denied that we do give the world our best," said DOT Sec. Christina Frasco.
"While the DOT has not yet come out with an enhanced tourism slogan as that as a country brand, I assure you you'll love it."
