Meet Zoo Zoo, the cutest 'meownager' in Singapore's Cat Socrates

If you love cats, there's a shop in Singapore you must visit at all costs: Cat Socrates in Joo Chiat Road, the home of cute trinkets and chonky feline Zoo Zoo.

The tabby cat is the "meownager" of the eclectic shop selling cat-themed postcards, books, notebooks, mugs, coasters, plates, bowls, pillows, slippers, decorative pieces, and all sorts of other knickknacks.

The shop lures you in with a sign: "Please do not pet the cat." Of course, you just have to see for yourself what that is about, but once you open the door, you're not going to come out until you had enough of Zoo Zoo's cuteness and bought a bunch of nice stuff to boot.

Amid all the beautiful things in the shop, Zoo Zoo somehow does not knock things over as he effortlessly charms customers with his presence.

"On the average day, he sleeps through his job duty in his perfect sleeping spot — on top of the shelf, with the best view of the whole shop, accepts hoomans worshipping from below," Cat Socrates describes Zoo Zoo in its website.

"When he is in the mood, he might also be your personal shopper and follows you around in the shop," it added.

Zoo Zoo is not the only "meownager" of Cat Socrates. Their branch in Tiong Bahru has Mayo, who joined them last year after their first cat, Chestnut, retired due to advanced age.

According to the shop, Mayo has taken a liking to his role as a new "meownager."

"He is enthusiastic about his job, eager to help all the time, roams in the shop, greets customers or helps with the cashier," it said. "Even at his nap time, he stays in the hammock of our cat tree right above the cashier, supervises us in his dream."

Even though you cannot pet Zoo Zoo and Mayo due to health and safety reasons amid the pandemic, you can buy photos of them rocking cute cat bows and scarves as a souvenir.
