Planning a trip to Thailand? You might want to stay at Phuket’s most iconic heritage mansion
Suppose you're planning a trip to Thailand anytime soon. In that case, you may snag yourselves a perfect holiday as the Governor's Mansion—the most prominent icon of Sino-Portuguese baroque architecture on Phuket island—will open its doors for an overnight stay exclusively for Airbnb guests.
Supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, this ultimate designer stay will take place from April 15 to 17, marking the first time the mansion will welcome overnight guests in more than 50 years.
The luxurious stay showcases Thailand's rich architectural heritage and design sensibility through never-before-seen pieces by renowned Bangkok-based furniture designers and classic Phuket antiques.
Guests will be immersed in a quintessentially Phuketian experience, including a personal welcome at check-in by Thai superstar Patricia Tanchanok Good, who starred in Netflix's “Girl From Nowhere 2,” and exclusive access to a two-bedroom suite on the mansion's expansive second floor, a private reception lounge, and living room.
A bespoke, multi-course tasting menu prepared and hosted by master Chef Nooror Somany Stepp is also part of the experience, as well as a scuba diving and snorkeling adventure around the Andaman Sea and a look at gibbon rehabilitation in Phuket's last rainforest.
The 119-year-old Governor's Mansion has welcomed many out-of-town dignitaries and remained one of several modern-day neoclassical heritage mansions in Phuket. The sprawling white and mustard heritage home is located in the historic heart of Old Phuket Town. It has been exquisitely restored to preserve its original fixtures, down to its richly patterned tiles and teakwood floors. Its first floor is now home to Blue Elephant Restaurant, a Michelin Plate awardee and long-running stalwart of Thailand's culinary industry.
The majestic Governor's Mansion may be booked here for around PHP2,500 for a two-night stay from April 15-17. Bookings open at 9 a.m. on April 5. – Hermes Joy Tunac/RC, GMA News
