#PINNED: Travel during the COVID-19 pandemic to these reopened local tourist spots
#Pinned makes it easier for young Filipinos to discover meaningful and enriching content and stories that will help them separate music from the noise, wheat from the chaff, and flowers from the weeds.
All our stories are written by young creatives who made it their life mission to know everything there is to know about how fellow young adults can make the most out of their limited down time every day, every week.
Do you find yourself daydreaming, staring blankly into space, wishing you could be anywhere but the four corners of your room? We’ve all been there. You have probably become a hermit at this point in the pandemic, not knowing what life is like outside anymore.
You’re simply replaying memories of heading out to the nearest restaurant for a simple yet enjoyable date, or being surrounded by the laughter of your friends during nights out, even driving through lengthy roads blasting your confusing mixed genre playlist for out of town trips—wondering when you’ll be able to do it all over again.
For the gallivanter, travelling is number one in a long list of things to do once the lockdown is over. But if you’re in dire need of a quick getaway, we know of the best and safest places to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines.
By planning a weekend getaway near Manila, you’re also helping to boost the economy by supporting these communities who are trying to regain what they lost during this trying time. Plus, getting a much needed vacation.
But of course, you won’t be able to arrive at your desired destination without abiding COVID-19 travel guidelines and requirements, which we were able to get just for you!
If you’ve had it with the hustle and bustle of your home, that is, you might want to take a R&R (rest and recreation) trip. You’ll find yourself in a state of tranquility and relaxation, enjoying these places with company or by yourself.
Tagaytay
If you’re already pencil booking a date with friends, we think that Narra Hill Tagaytay would be a great choice for your next road trip. First of all, it’s a short drive, plus its bed and breakfast motif will make you feel like you’re waking up in a movie with its overlooking view of mountain ridges and water.
You and your friends can book its airbnb type suite that can accommodate up to six people (and for your information, you even get your own pool).
You won’t be needing any requirements for this one, just your booking confirmation. However, you might want to take an Antigen swab test beforehand to make sure that everyone is safe!
San Benito
Sit back feeling recharged and balanced in the middle of a solemn forest, that seems to be quite popular even with celebrities! Who knows who you might run into?
The Farm at San Benito has recreational and wellness activities you can do while taking that much needed breather. You might even find yourself stuffing your face with their gourmet seafood and vegan meals. So, no need to worry about gaining a pound or two, because you won’t even feel it after your trip.
Their vast selection of villas will allow you to heal holistically during your stay, without leaving the comforts of your room—enjoy room service and again, your private pool!
The Farm is a COVID-19 free sanctuary. Guests have to go through their Antigen testing center before entering the grounds. All you have to do is pay the fee, then kickback and relax.
Baguio
Now that it’s officially the rainy season, you might want to visit a colder location for a change. Baguio may be the perfect place for you and your family during this pandemic. Appreciate the comforting scent of pine trees and the tingling of the cool breeze when it touches your skin.
When we think of Baguio, all we want is the raisin bread from the country club, so why not sneak us a loaf or two, pretty please?
Before packing, make sure that you and your party have taken an Antigen or RT-PCR swab test. If you’re already on the road without this requirement, you can conveniently get an antigen test at the Baguio Central Triage area for only PHP 350.
For beach lovers who love getting wrinkled up while on the sand soaking up the heat of the sun, you can visit these places and finally bask in the ambience of sunblock and salt water.
La Union
The surfing capital of Northern Philippines is a big hit to all ages. You wouldn’t really mind the long drive as long as you wake up to the sound of waves at your beach front accommodation—talk about paradise!
La Union is a very laid back beach where you can wear and do whatever you want without being judged. Indulge in a delicious fruit bowl while admiring the breathtaking view of white powdery sand. Even go people watching as surfers casually walk past you with their boards clinged to their arms ready to catch the next wave.
Despite La Union’s requirements being on the more complicated side, it’s definitely worth it:
- Register through this link and get your QR code.
- Apply for a travel request to receive a tourist pass through the same link. Choose FAST Travel and Tours as your agency.
- TARA NA! will provide you with an itinerary for staycation purposes only, but you can opt for the true islander life and just go with the flow of the day.
- Take an RT-PCR swab test 72 hours prior to travel.
- Upload test results on TARA NA!’s website together with your valid ID for QR code to be activated.
- And you’re done! Present the code at the border checkpoint.
Batangas
Another one on our list is Anilao, Batangas. The beaches may not have powdery white sand, but for adventurers, you might want to explore the diving activities they have to offer.
Take a boat ride to the middle of the ocean with certified dive instructors, and discover what may be lurking under the sea. Don’t worry you’ll be accompanied the whole time if you’re feeling a bit hesitant! The aftermath is surreal and you’ll end up not wanting to get out of the water.
For this trip, all you’ll be needing is your booking confirmation, an Antigen swab test result 24 hours before or an RT-PCR swab test result at least 72 hours before. Like Baguio, if this requirement slipped your mind, you can get tested at the checkpoint upon entering.
Boracay
Do you miss the environment of the airport? Waking up early for your flight, the sound of lugging your suitcase to get past security, and sitting around in cold metal chairs waiting to board. This is your chance to hop on that plane again!
When you think of Boracay, it’s one of those places that remind you so much of your youth. You’re probably used to having pizza at the Two Seasons or gulping Jonah’s fruit shakes left and right. You might even find yourself by the beach side after drinks munching on a chori-burger that hits the spot.
Here’s what you’ll be needing if you’re on the next flight out to the island:
- Access this website and select Boracay in the ‘Where To’ page.
- Fill out the form and click submit.
- Take a screenshot of your confirmation page.
Send the following documents to touristboracay@gmail.com, and subject format should be OHDC-FamilyName, First Name:
- Screenshot of confirmation.
- Valid ID of Philippine residency.
- Negative RT-PCR or saliva test results within 72 hours before date of travel.
- Booking confirmation of accommodation.
- Flight details heading to Caticlan Airport only.
- A copy of your pending S-pass Travel Coordination Permit (TCP) application.
- Lastly, fill up your Health Declaration Card, and voila!
While you might already be booking your trip while reading this, don’t be too complacent despite going through COVID-19 health protocols! Be considerate to the people around you and still mask up. But aside from that, stay safe and happy travels!
