Philippines hailed as Asia's leading beach, dive destination at World Travel Awards 2020

The Philippines has been hailed as Asia's leading beach and leading dive destination at the World Travel Awards 2020.

According to a press release from the Department of Tourism, this is the fourth time the country was recognized as the top beach getaway and the second time as the top dive spot in Asia.

Last year, the Philippines was named as the world's leading dive destination for the first time.

"These recognitions are certainly an inspiration to the industry as we safely and gradually reopen our destinations for tourism," said tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

Intramuros also bagged the title of Asia's leading tourist attraction for the second time after first winning it in 2016.

Meanwhile, DOT was awarded as Asia’s Leading Tourist Board also for the second time, beating 11 other countries.

The World Travel Awards is the most prestigious accolade program in the travel industry. —MGP, GMA News
