Swimming in Coron beaches up to LGU, says DOT

The beaches of Coron, Palawan have been emptied of the usual flock of tourists amid the enhanced community quarantine.

Swimming is not permitted, so stranded tourists and even resort staff could not enjoy the wonders of the island paradise.

According to the Department of Tourism, the decision to allow or prohibit swimming in beaches is up to the local governments.

"Depende kasi ang mga LGU may kanya-kanya silang ginawang ordinance. Sa mga iba like Palawan, bawal mag-swimming pero sa iba, puwede naman," secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in JP Soriano's report on "24 Oras."

A total of 1,628 domestic travelers, including Puyat's son Vito, have been stranded in the country as of Tuesday.

The DOT will arrange sweeper flights to help them get home to their respective home cities or provinces.

Meanwhile, Boracay Island was also recently seen devoid of human activity.
