TOURISM ACT OF 2009

DOT celebrates Filipino tourism workers who've ensured the rise of PHL travel industry, launches new website

Ten years since the enactment of Republic Act 9593 or the Tourism Act of 2009, the Department of Tourism (DOT) celebrates the progress and development of the Philippine tourism industry at the recently opened Museo de Intramuros in Manila.

“The Tourism Decade: Celebrating the Rise of the Philippine Travel Industry with the Tourism Act of 2009” is a year-long campaign by the DOT.

It details how RA 9593 positively transformed the lives of thousands of people and focuses on the advocacy of sustainable tourism that benefits the generations to come.

In her video recorded speech, DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat recognizes the stories of the dedicated tourism workers and how the Tourism Act of 2009 has enabled an inclusive growth, providing opportunities to thousands of individuals and communities from all over the country over the past 10 years.

To further develop the Philippine tourism industry, DOT Assistant Secretary Howard Lance Uyking in an interview says that the Tourism department will be collaborating with the youth to produce videos and content to promote the lesser known destinations and places in the country.

The public can witness the narration of how the tourism industry changed the lives of the Filipino tourism workers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao through the newly launched website by the Department of Tourism. There is also an exhibition on display until December 28, 2019 at the Museo de Intramuros.
