Over 100k tourists expected in Baguio over Holy Week
Up to 100,000 local tourists are expected to spend their Holy Week in Baguio City, local officials said on Wednesday.
According to a report in GMA News TV's News To Go, tourists have started to arrive at the country's Summer Capital and many hotels were already fully-booked.
Those who are planning to visit Baguio City were advised to take public transportation to prevent traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, prices of some vegetables sold in Baguio Public Market have spiked due to a decrease in supply, according to a separate report by Dano Tingcungco in GMA News TV's Balitanghali.
"Mataas ngayon dahil sa El Niño. Tsaka 'yung pagbiyahe mahirap kasi kulang, walang sasakyan," said Tess Galzote, a vegetable vendor.
Cauliflower is sold at P150 per kilo from the previous price of P80.
Pechay Baguio, carrots, potatoes, sayote, and ampalaya are also sold P10 to P20 higher than their previous prices.
On the other hand, strawberry production in La Trinidad, Benguet was also affected by the hot weather.
Strawberry farmers said that their produce is relatively smaller now compared to when the weather was cooler in their area. —Dona Magsino/NB, GMA News
