A church in Cebu’s Bantayan Island is wowing parishioners with an intricate painting on its ceiling
It might still be undone, but a church on Bantayan Island in Cebu has been wowing parishioners and netizens for the amazing mural on its ceiling.
St. Peter and Paul Parish features a multi-panel, super detailed mural on its ceiling not unlike the famous Sistine Chapel.
It is the work of artist Aris Pastor and 11 of his comrades from the Dibuho Kisame Crew. “Originally, apat lang kami, from Palompon, Leyte. Then we added four more artists from Cebu City, but to show our support to the island, we also hired local young artists from Bantayan. All in all 12 kami,” Aris tells GMA’s YouScoop.
It’s been his dream to paint a church’s ceiling, like Michelangelo’s work at the Sistine Chapel in Italy. “Kaya hindi ko na pinalagpas yung opportunity,” he continues. When Fr. Joy Danao called him after seeing of his murals in Cebu, Aris simply said, “let’s make it happen.”
According to Aris, they started painting the church’s ceiling in August 2018 with plans of finishing the massive artwork in May 2019.
