How to travel like a local in Sapporo, Japan


Learning how to travel like a local is the best way to explore a city. While walking may help you appreciate the street views, it may also take a toll on your energy. The next best thing? Making the most out of the local transportation.
 
In the city of Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan, that means taking the Sapporo Shiden or the city’s tram system. According to GMA News TV’s ‘Biyahe ni Drew,’ which recently visited Sapporo, the Shiden is the best way to go if you want to get the most scenic views in the area.
 
With a maximum of only ¥170 or an estimated P76, one can hop on the city's iconic streetcar and have a glimpse of the Sapporo life. At the same time, the Shiden also serves as a gateway to the city's main attractions. Take a look at the essential stops you may want to check out:

From Maruyama Koen Station at the Tozai Subway Line, you can take bus line 14 bound for Okurayama Kyogijo bus stop. From there, walk for about 10 minutes towards the ski jump.
 
The Ishiya Chocolate Factory is located inside Shiroi Koibito Park, which can be accessed by walking from Miyanosawa Station. 
 
Walk from Chuo Kuyakusho Station to Nishi Juitchome Station of the Subway Tozai Line. Get off at Maruyama Koen Station.
 
Walk from Chuo Kuyakusho Station to Nishi Juitchome Station of the Subway Tozai Line. Then it’s a seven-minute walk from Nijuyonken Station.
 
From Sapporo Shiden's Ropeway Iriguchi station, hop on the free shuttle bus that will take you to Mount Moiwa Ropeway. 
 
Take a three-minute walk from Susukino station to Ramen Alley.
 
Take a four-minute walk from Susukino station to the Japanese Buffet Den.
 
Take the Namboku Line subway in Susukino. Get off at  Makomanai Station. Take the Jotetsu Bus number 12.
 
Ride the Loop 88 Factory Line bus at Odori Station and in front of Seibu department store.
 
Walk from Susukino to Odori Station. Take the Tozai Line to Shin-Sapporo Station. Take a short bus ride or a 20 to 30-minute walk.
 
Take the Namboku Line subway in Susukino. Get off at Sapporo Station and walk for about 450 meters or seven minutes.
 
From the Toho Subway Line's Kanjo Dori Higashi Station, get on bus number 69 or 79 to Mt. Moerenuma Park. The bus will take you to the east entrance, the park's only entry point open all year round.
 
Walk from Susukino Tram Station to Hosuisusukino Station, Toho line. Then walk from Fukuzumi Station to the Sapporo Dome.
