Fashion designer Dennis Lustico celebrates 25th anniversary through ‘Pamana’ collection

Filipino fashion designer Dennis Lustico showcased his collection, “Pamana,” through a fashion show at the historic Goldenberg Mansion in San Miguel, Manila, in celebration of his 25th anniversary in the fashion industry.

The collection “Pamana,” meaning inheritance or heritage, featured 50 meticulously designed pieces, which are Lustico’s homage to Philippine life and heritage.

The show on Thursday evening, graced by First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, was opened by 10 Ambassadors to the Philippines who also walked the runway wearing custom Dennis Lustico, followed by the collection of 40 womenswear and 10 menswear pieces.

The designs included shift dresses, boxy tops, and oversized blouses made of local fabrics, including piña and abaca.

According to Lustico, he started working on the "Pamana" collection in February.

“I am more unhurried in putting this collection together. I wanted to do everything right,” the designer said in a press release.

“Usually, when we hear the word PAMANA, we immediately think of the terno or baro’t saya. I wanted to do something that had not yet been done. Something that’s contemporary, yet that will resonate even to a global audience. Something that’s wearable even years after this show,” he said.

Lustico used muted hues and metallic tones like lilac, lime, and olive green, contrasted against gold, brass, and copper.

He also collaborated with artisans from Aklan, Lumban, and the northern regions of Luzon to integrate distinct patterns like gumamela, malunggay, anahaw, and kalabasa leaves, which were woven into the fabrics.

Together with Gambia Consul Agnes Huibonhoa, the chairperson of the event, Lustico chose Fashion Aid Philippines, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping emerging craftsmen and designers, as the beneficiary of the fashion show.
