Carlos Yulo wears crop top, earns praise for 'breaking toxic masculinity'

Carlos Yulo got props from netizens for "breaking toxic masculinity" with an outfit he wore in Seoul, South Korea.

On Instagram, the double Olympic gold medalist shared a photo of him wearing a fitted crop top paired with denim jeans.

In the comments, the Filipino gymnast got some positive feedback for challenging gender stereotypes both in sports and in fashion.

"Winning the Olympics and now, breaking toxic masculinity and cultural codes of dressing up. Carlos, you're the gold!" one fan said.

"It's giving secure masculinity. We stan a progressive guy!" said another.

Some people, however, did not like what he was wearing.

In Mav Gonzales's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, celebrity stylist Melvin Melgar said crop tops makes one look taller.

"Fit and then loose. Go for a loose kind of pants. Shoes since you want to go taller, go for things that will elevate your height," he said.

According to the report, wearing crop tops among men was first popularized by action star Sylvester Stallone in the 1970s.

Aside from cropped tops, wearing a skirt, putting on makeup, and doing skincare have become popular among men in recent years.
