Scared of using colors in outfits? Here's how you can start, according to fashion stylists

Incorporating color into your outfits can be intimidating for some, especially those who are used to wearing only neutral tones.

But according to fashion stylists and founders of The Closet Culture, Siya Daryani and Roshni Mirpuri, using colors can really enhance your overall appearance because of the visual interest it adds to your look.

For those who want to start wearing colors but don’t know where to begin, Siya said that using monochromatic pieces is key.

“The safest way is to go monochromatic. You do green on green, you do blue on blue, and just use neutral colors to tie the whole look down,” she said during the Rustan’s Beauty Addict event on Thursday.

Monochromatic pertains to a color scheme that is based on one color or hue only.

As a sample, Siya showed her outfit, where she matched her bright green top and skirt with a black jacket so that “it’s not too much.”

She also had a pair of cream boots on with green socks peeking through.

“Just tone it down by wearing neutrals,” she said. “That’s one of the best ways of using color.”

Roshini added, “The other way is adding a pop of color. Just a pop of yellow, add a jacket, or a pop of green.”

This technique can also be used on your accessories, like bags and earrings, and even through makeup.

“Bags are a very good way to add color to your outfit,” she said.

“If I’m doing red lips, I can go with a red bag. It’s not only a bag. People forget that the color of your lipstick, the color of your earrings, everything can add a pop of color to your outfit, and it’s a beautiful way of adding color,” she added.

She also called this method “cohesive and doable” for a lot of people.

“Actually, if you’re a beginner, it’s fine to explore color using accessories. Just start small, start easy, start getting comfortable with it,” she said. “Go slow, go easy.” —JCB, GMA Integrated News
