Nancy Binay wears Randy Ortiz-designed Filipiniana for her last SONA
Senator Nancy Binay has arrived at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
The senator wore an ivory Filipiniana with floral details designed by Randy Ortiz, and the reason behind this choice is nostalgic.
"When I got elected nung 2013, si Randy Ortiz ang gumawa ng ating damit. This is my last SONA, so naisip natin na, for my first and my last SONA outfit, kay Randy Ortiz," Binay told GMA Integrated News.
She added that her Filipiniana was made with piña fabric sourced from Aklan.
"Alam naman natin, a year ago, na-declare ang piña as part of UNESCO world heritage," she said. "May mga challenges sa pag-produce ng fabric."
"Hopefully by showing off this fabric, magkakaroon ng support sa pag-propagate pa, kasi kailangan natin magpadami ng pineapple na ginagamit for piña eh," she added.
This is Binay's last term in the Senate.
In the opening session of the 19th Congress earlier this morning, she told reporters, “Next year ibang Binay na ang rarampa dito.”
Marcos' camp did not divulge the contents of his SONA, but some of the current pressing issues include the rising conflict in the West Philippine Sea against global superpower China, which has prompted Manila to lodge diplomatic protests against Beijing, and officials from both countries to hold a bilateral meeting to manage the ongoing disputes in the region. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
