Going to the beach this rainy season? Here are expert style tips for the perfect outfit

No rain can stop Filipinos from going to the beach!

If your trip happens to fall in the rainy season and you missed the chance to have the 'hot girl summer' vibes, fear not — makulimlim can still be a fun aesthetic.

GMA News Online interviewed Misha Bernardino, the brand director of popular swimwear brand Blackbough, and she's got tips on how to style the perfect beach wear.

Dress comfortably

Wearing something comfortable on rainy days is a must!

To kickstart your OOTD, Misha recommends wearing a waterproof beach tote, a cute beach towel, and a wide brim hat when you visit the beach.

A quick fit, like an oversized tee and a pair of shorts, would be easy to throw on after getting soaked on rainy days, be it from a dip in the sea or a sudden rain shower.

Refreshing colors

Colors can make or break your outfit, so it’s important to choose the best shades that suit you well.

In choosing a swimwear, one must consider their skin color and the fit they want to achieve, Misha says.

“To look more tan, people gravitate towards brighter colors or white colored swim. To look slimmer people lean towards wearing dark colored swim or horizontal patterns. To enhance cool tones, pastels and shades of blue are preferred,” she added.

This rainy season though, it would be pretty cool to wear cool toned shades like blue and green as these colors are very refreshing in the eyes.

The must-haves

As you go on a beach outing this rainy season, you still very much need to apply your sunscreen.

Other than that, take note of these two must-haves to bring in your bag: beach towels and beach hats, to keep you dry!

Hairstyle

Styling our hair on rainy days might be a little bit of a handful as it has the tendency to get wet. But we don’t want to look haggard in our Instagram photos, do we?

The best way to style it is by wearing a headband to keep your hair in a place. You can also tie it up with a cute scrunchie, then you’re good to go!

Hair is a crowning glory, so go wear it like a queen.

Know your style

No matter what body type you have, you can definitely pull it off with style.

For conservative girlies, Misha recommends one piece suits, tankinis, shorts, skorts and swim dresses.

Meanwhile, for people who prefer “less coverage,” triangle bikini tops, halters and cheeky bottoms are nice to wear.

“You can choose to get the triangle top and a bottom with more coverage, or get an underwire top and a cheeky bottom, it’s all up to you and what you’re in the mood for,” she added.

Pick the outfit that makes you feel good

Some people get conscious of what they will look like when they go to the beach, and it’s totally understandable.

But here’s a little tip from Misha: pick an outfit that makes you feel good and flaunt it.

She suggests wearing a skort, or some swim shorts as it will allow you to move comfortably.

“While you’re building up your confidence, it always helps to show yourself a little bit more love and kindness, especially in swimming,” Misha said.
