R'Bonney Gabriel creates dress with traditional fabric from Sultan Kudarat

R'Bonney Gabriel once again flexed her fashion design skills with traditional inaul or woven fabric she got from her trip to Sultan Kudarat.

On Instagram, the Miss Universe 2022 queen and sustainable fashion designer said that she “was super inspired with all the traditional textiles” and wanted to make a dress with a black fabric with colorful details.

In her video, R’Bonney showed her process of planning with folded fabrics, cutting it, sewing the dress, trying it on, and then styling it.

R’Bonney ended up with a chic folded-type dress that met in the middle, complete with a slit and styled with a large belt.

“Oh my gosh, I love this,” R’Bonney said after wearing the dress. “This is how you make fashion in half a day.”

The beauty queen added that the dress is zero-waste because she used the whole piece of fabric.

“If you were to make this on like a mass scale, all the dresses made would not create any waste,” she said. “You know, I’m all about showing how fashion can be sustainable and this is it.”

R’Bonney added that she now wants to make more dresses.

The Filipina-American beauty queen was in Sultan Kudarat to host the Miss Universe Philippines National Costume competition.

She is also the host of this year’s Miss Universe Philippines coronation night happening on May 22, where Michelle Dee is set to crown her successor.

R’Bonney returned to the Philippines in April, and will stay “for longer” for modeling, hosting, and guestings.

More of R’Bonney’s adventures in the Philippines include appearing on “TiktoClock,” shopping in Divisoria, traveling to Bohol, and trying street food.
