Filipino graffiti trio Aral Cru just designed an astig-looking pair of shoes!
Behind Adidas Philippines' latest hyperlocal release is Aral Cru, a Filipino graffiti trio consisting of Cinos, Frank, and Bvdot.
The international sportswear brand tapped the group to design a pair of shoes that conveys the enduring and burning love of Filipinos for basketball.
Called Alab ng Puso, the collaboration has Aral Cru transforming the Adidas' BYW Select shoes with their unique design and street art aesthetic.
It comes in a red-blue-yellow colorway with splashes of orange, symbolizing the flame – or passion – of Filipinos for the game.
“Sa color palette na ginamit namin, ginawa namin 'yung fade ng red to yellow para magmukhang nagbabaga, o umaalab,” said Cinos during the launch of the collaboration.
Aral Cru also ensured their style was not lost in the release. Both the forefoot and insole design are home to a unique spray paint gradient effect that makes use of the group’s signature approach.
The art collective also produced their own spin on the Adidas logo, with the brand's iconic Badge of Sport splashed with red and orange – showcasing the brand and artist’s close relationship.
According to Aral Cru's Bvdot, international brands collaborating with local artists is an important, "progressive" step.
"Sana mas ma-normalize pa to collaborate with local artists. I think it's very progressive as a community and as a country," he said.
"This could be an inspiration to someone, such as a child, or maybe artists like us who also love basketball, na maraming paraan to show your love through art," he added.
Alab ng Puso retails for P7,3000 and is now available in select stores and online.
