Women-led fundraiser FilipinaZ marks 10th anniversary, puts spotlight on the arts

FilipinaZ, a fundraiser by Zonta Makati and Enviroz (ZCME), is returning after three years at The Fifth at Rockwell in Makati.

On October 21 and 22, the women-led initiative presents “FilipinaZ: Living Art,” a shopping event focusing on the arts, fashion, and fine jewelry.

The fundraising event, which will mark its 10th anniversary this year, is for the benefit of the Psychological Center for Sexually Abused Girls in Marillac Hills and the Empowering Women Scholarship Program, among others.

Unlike other bazaars that focuses heavily on fashion, this year’s FilipinaZ is spotlighting the arts.

According to Maritess Pineda, FilipinaZ chairperson and former president of ZCME, Zonta members “are avid art collectors and patrons.”

"Even during the pandemic, I could see the art market was able to sustain, and actually, deep down inside me, my heart really is in the arts,” Pineda told GMA News Online.

FilipinaZ will mount a larger space dedicated to art pieces curated by Ayni Nuyda.

The event will also mark the first time that Search Mindscape Foundation will hold its very own showcase. Other participating galleries include Art Circle Gallery, ART/SPACE, Renaissance Art Gallery, and Rojo Galerie, among others.

The event will maintain its offerings of fashion and jewelry pieces from local artisans and brands, including Casa Juan, Arnel Papa, Carioca, My Ottoman House, Rhett Eala, Sari Lazaro, and many more.

“We have to give it something different, to give it a new brand because we’ve been away for three years and we were not able to do fundraising,” Pineda continued.

For the first time in its 10-year history, FilipinaZ will also award five women luminaries who have channeled creativity to impact positive change across multiple fields.

The first batch of FilipinaZ Luminaries are Anita Magsaysay-Ho for visual arts, Josie Natori for fashion, Milagros Salgado-Dayrit for jewelry, Sara Soliven de Guzman for education, and Vicky Vizcarra for craft.

“Our goal in Zonta is women empowerment," Pineda said. "The women luminaries that we chose can really inspire these up-and-coming women that it is possible, it is possible to get up there.”

Living Art, the 10th edition of FilipinaZ will happen from October 21 to 22 at the Fifth at Rockwell in Makati. For tickets and other concerns, visit @iamfilipinaz on Instagram.
