R'Bonney Gabriel reconstructed this Filipiniana top from an old blazer
R’Bonney Gabriel wore a Filipiniana top in a feature for Vogue Philippines, and guess what — she made it herself.
The reigning Miss Universe queen and sustainable fashion designer created the top by reconstructing an old black blazer.
“At the time I was making this, I had the intentions of creating new designs in a more environmentally conscious way,” R’Bonney said on Instagram.
“[Approximately 92 million] tons of textile waste goes into landfills each year and as a designer, I must continue to provide examples of solutions to this problem.”
“Little did I know, it would end up in Vogue Philippines, and I would model it," she added. "Thank you @voguephilippines @missuniverse for giving me this platform to share my passion.”
For Vogue, R’Bonney looked totally chic when she wore the top with a white shirt and ripped jeans.
“One of the hardest things to do is be someone you’re not. Thank you @voguephilippines @missuniverse for allowing me to just be myself on this shoot,” she said on Instagram.
She was crowned Miss Universe in January and is the first Filipino-American queen to have the title.
The sustainable fashion advocate has appeared in shoots and events in outfits she made using recycled fabric.
R’Bonney visited the Philippines this year as the special guest for the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night. She was also able to reunite with her family and visit her dad’s home street in Malate.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ representative for the Miss Universe 2023 pageant is Michelle Dee. The coronation will be held in El Salvador on November 18.
