Win Gatchalian wears 'Piña Callado' Barong for Senate opening session

Senator Win Gatchalian tapped on the creativity of Filipino artisans for the opening of the Second Regular Session of the 19th Congress in the Senate on Monday.

According to a statement, Gatchalian donned a "Piña Callado" Barong, a Jo Rubio signature from Bulacan.

The piña material was woven from Aklan, while the callado embroidery was made by the embroiderers of Lumban, Laguna.

The opening session at the Senate takes place ahead of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Batasang Pambansa this afternoon.

Gatchalian's fellow senators put their own spins on their ternos and barongs.

Marcos last week said his SONA will be “really very simple” and would be a “performance report” for Filipinos to see which of his pronouncements have been realized.

The Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City has already been in lockdown since Thursday, ahead of Marcos’ SONA.
