Why Alodia Gosiengfiao chose a dragon-inspired gown for her wedding day

Alodia Gosiengfiao balanced fantastical and traditional for her unique wedding look.

In an exclusive interview with Preview, Alodia bared all the details and the inspiration behind her dragon-inspired wedding gown, which was created by top designer Mak Tumang.

The cosplayer and content creator said she wanted the dragon elements as she was born in the Year of the Dragon, and she and husband Chris Quimbo are huge fans of Daenerys Targaryen and “Game of Thrones." Moreover, her signature looks like a dragon.

“My initial concept talaga was something fantasy, and di naman unworldly or something — parang something that hasn’t been done,” Alodia told Preview. “That was always been my mantra even in my crafts and whatnot, parang even in my cosplay — I want something that hasn’t been done.”

When the couple saw one of Mak’s pieces which had a dragon-like look, they thought, “makakaya.”

Alodia added that she wanted the gown to be traditional. “Of course, we have our family to watch us,” she laughed. “Of course, I’m not gonna go all-out cosplay for the wedding. Parang little hints of creativity but I don’t want it to be like everything I’ve done before.”

The finished gown has incredible beaded details and a dragon-like cape, and a dragon’s body on the train. During her second fitting, Alodia said, “It’s perfect.” She added that since the dragon’s body looked like her signature, “It’s a great coincidence.”

According to Mak, “Medyo tight [schedule] na 'yung paglapit niya" because they usually require clients to give them at least six months to work on their gowns.

He added that the biggest challenge was, “mag-input ka ng dragon elements pero hindi mag-mu-mukhang costume-y, kailangan wedding pa rin 'yung vibe.”

On the other hand, Chris wore a dapper black and white suit by Francis Libiran.

Alodia also wore wedding boots by Doreen Odvina.
