Pia Wurtzbach reveals how she ended up wearing her winning gown in Miss Universe 2015

We can't deny that Pia Wurtzbach's royal blue gown in Miss Universe 2015 is one of the most iconic numbers ever gracing the international pageant's stage.

In Vicki Belo's most recent vlog titled "Pia Wurtzbach tells all," the beauty queen said that she feels "most beautiful and most confident" in blue, and it was because of the Red Cross Charity Gala eight years ago.

"I attended an event here in Manila, the Red Cross Charity Gala," Pia recalled. "I was wearing a blue gown I borrowed from Albert Andrada, and I got so many compliments that night."

From that moment on, Pia thought, "If they think that I look good in this color, I'm going to believe it because there is no benefit for them [to fool me]."

Back when the Binibining Pilipinas pageant still handled the representative of the country for Miss Universe, the candidates didn't have a say on the gowns they would be wearing, and the organization would just provide everything, Pia said.

So, what she did to convince Stella Araneta, the Binibining Pilipinas director, for her to wear a blue gown for Miss Universe was to compile photos of her in blue to prove that she looked flattering in that color.

Pia told Stella, "Madam, if I may, I'm not saying this is going to happen, but with your permission, I would like to wear a blue gown."

"It can be your choice, but I would just love it to be blue because I feel the most beautiful and the most confident in blue," she added.

Despite Pia pitching her idea to Stella, the organization sent her a black and white gown that didn't fit her well. So ultimately, she received a call from Stella where she was told, "You can wear whatever you want, just make sure you win."

Without second thoughts, she opted for a blue Albert Andrada gown that arrived in Las Vegas three days before the grand coronation night.

"When it arrived, I didn't know what it would look like. I didn't know the cut. I just know the color," Pia said.

But the universe worked in Pia's favor, and the gown fit like it was really meant to be worn by the beauty queen who would take home the Philippines' third Miss Universe crown.

In 2015, Pia was hailed as Miss Universe, albeit controversially, after host Steve Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez the winner. Steve immediately admitted his mistake and corrected himself, proclaiming Pia as the rightful winner.

She was the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe crown after Gloria Diaz (1969) and Margarita Moran (1973).

Aside from being a beauty queen, Pia is also an entrepreneur, a marathoner, and the newest face of Belo's state-of-the-art treatment, Belo ASCE+ Exosomes.
