The year 2022 just proved that fashion trends come and go in a snap of a finger. Looking back on the past two years of the pandemic, when most of us stayed home, athleisure and loungewear reigned supreme. But in 2022, those trends sashayed away when people started going out in their most expressive fashion statements.
Fashion is back, and it's louder than ever. So as we draw the year to a close, take a look at these five best fashion moments of 2022.
1. Bella Hadid's spray paint dress
During Paris Fashion Week, Bella Hadid stole the attention of all fashionistas as she got dressed on the runway of Coperni Spring-Summer 2023 with a spray foam that turned into a regal white figure-hugging off-shoulder dress.
2. Rihanna's maternity looks
Gone are the days when pregnant women settle for boring outfits as their baby bumps grow bigger. This year, Rihanna proved that you could wear a cutout suit even when pregnant!
At Paris Fashion Week, the "Love on The Brain" hitmaker wore a baby blue skintight jumpsuit from Stella McCartney's Spring/Summer 2022, matched with an oversized green trench coat, and she rocked it from head to toe!
Rihanna also graced the cover of the fashion magazine Vogue in May while showing off her bedazzled baby bump.
3. Kim Kardashian in Marilyn Monroe's "Happy Birthday Mr. President" dress
Met Gala is one of the most-awaited fashion events annually. In 2022, the theme was "Gilded Age," and Kim Kardashian interpreted it by wearing a shimmering figure-hugging dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962. The late actress reportedly wore it during the 45th birthday party of US President John F. Kennedy, where she infamously sang "Happy Birthday, Mr. President."
Kim's stunt on the dress had a mixed reaction from people after reports circulated that it was "damaged" after the American socialite wore it. While many people called out Kim for wearing a "historical garment," she insisted that she took utmost care while it was in her possession.
4. Jennifer Lopez's Ralph Lauren wedding dresses
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's wedding was the talk of the town in mid-2022 after they finally exchanged their "I Do's." It was said to be a love story 20 years in the making, and to commemorate the occasion in the best way possible, the radiant bride wore three dreamy Ralph Lauren dresses throughout the celebration.
Jennifer walked down the aisle wearing a white figure-hugging low-back gown with over 1,000 hand-cut handkerchiefs and 1,640 feet of fabric to achieve the dramatic voluminous ruffles skirt effect.
At the reception and after-party, the "Marry Me" actress wore two more Ralph Lauren dresses — one in a chandelier-inspired pearl gown and another in a sleek mermaid silhouette with a removable organza overlay.
5. Heart Evangelista serving couture by the beach
If it's not making a statement, it's not Heart Evangelista.
After doing groceries in couture, Heart proved in 2022 that you could literally wear couture anywhere... even on the beach. So during this year's Cannes Film Festival, Heart ROI-d her powder blue Tony Ward gown and had an extraordinary photoshoot by the beach.
