Marcos shows rayadillo-inspired barong ahead of inauguration

President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. shared a glimpse of the outfits the incoming First Family will don during his inauguration on Thursday.

On Facebook, Marcos said he will wear Barong Tagalog, the national costume of the Philippines, designed by multi-awarded designer Pepito Albert.

“Ang aking barong na isusuot sa inagurasyon na idinisenyo ni Pepito Albert ay hango sa rayadillo, ang tradisyunal na uniporme ng mga sundalo noong panahon ng mga Kastila,” said Marcos Jr. in a series of social media posts.

(The barong that I would wear for the inauguration is designed by Pepito Albert. It is inspired by rayadillo, the traditional soldiers’ uniform during the Spanish colonial period.)

“Para naman sa magaganap na salu-salo, isusuot ko ang barong na gawa sa tela ng piña na idinisenyo muli ni Pepito Albert sa bayan ng Taal, Batangas,” he said. “Katerno nito ang sapatos na gawa ng Sapatero Manila.”

(For the party, I will wear another barong made of piña fabric, also designed by Pepito Albert in Taal, Batangas. I will pair it with shoes from Sapatero Manila.)

Albert likewise designed an embroidered Barong Tagalog for his son Sandro and a yellow terno piece made of piña fabric for his sister, Irene.

His wife, lawyer Liza Araneta-Marcos, will don a modern piña terno prepared by renowned international designer Leslie Mobo while her shoes will be crafted by Lila Almario of Greggs Frame.

Earlier, incoming Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said Sen. Imee Marcos chose another designer for her outfit. -- BAP, GMA News
