Pia Wurtzbach's four gowns on coronation night pay tribute to Filipina Miss Universe queens

Pia Wurtzbach stunned as she paid tribute to all Filipina Miss Universe queens by wearing four gorgeous gowns during the Philippine coronation Saturday.

To pay tribute to Gloria Diaz, who was crowned in 1969, the 2015 queen wore a white Mark Bumgarner number. She called it the “Manila Girl on the Moon.”

“An ode to the white gown Gloria Diaz, the Philippines’ first Miss Universe, wore when she was asked in 1969 what she would do when the first man on the moon visited Manila,” she wrote in the caption.

“Today, this look is a message for every woman to be unafraid to reach for the moon and say yes to her dreams & new adventures,” she added.

Pia’s take on Margie Moran, meanwhile, was inspired by “the iconic flower pinned” on the Miss Universe 1973’s gown when she was crowned.

“We want to showcase the woman in full bloom. In a hue that’s brighter than the sun, we’re reinventing what pageant swimsuit shots could look like with this offbeat one piece number that unapologetically highlights a woman’s curves,” she wrote, tagging designer Jaggy Glarino.

Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without looking back on her own iconic win in 2015. Wearing a blue Louis Pangilinan fit, she called it “My Crowning Glory.”

“We’re taking wearing the crown to the next level — not just on top of our heads, but as an embodiment of how every woman should be celebrated whatever size, shape or age she is.”

Last but definitely not the least, there’s Gladi Echevarre and Atsuko Kudo’s “Girl on Fire” for Catriona Gray’s win in 2018.

“We want every woman to feel like she is a phoenix rising who is fierce, feminine, and fabulous in everything that she does,” she wrote.

The photos were taken by BJ Pascual with the creative direction of Eldzs Mejia. Her hair and makeup, meanwhile, were the masterpieces of Mickey See and Renz Pangilinan.

Pia hosted the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 coronation with Iris Mittenaere and Demi-Leigh Tebow. Catriona Gray and reigning queen Harnaaz Sandhu were also present, making way for a grand reunion.
