Female inmates design gowns made of recycled materials for BJMP eco fashion competition
Female inmates have designed and created gowns out of recycled materials for an eco-fashion competition organized by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in celebration of Women’s Month.
As seen on Mark Salazar’s “24 Oras” report Tuesday, the inmates conceptualized and made their creations using items that were usually discarded.
From Urdaneta District Jail in Region 1, there is the Reynang Mulawin gown made from egg cartons. There’s also the black Filipiniana made of rice sacks, garbage bags, and cans of sardines.
Region 7’s entry was a green dress called Mystic gown, while Region 2’s Moonlight and Region 5’s Dual Function gowns featured detachable skirts and could serve both as a cocktail and formal attire.
NCR, meanwhile, featured an elegant gown made from woven mat.
The winner of the contest was Region 12’s gown, which was made mainly of cheese cloth and accentuated with neutral and earth colored materials.
The second and third places went to MIMAROPA’s Pandikan and Region 3’s Bulaklak ng Kaunlaran dresses. – Franchesca Viernes/RC, GMA News
