Miss Universe 2021: Beatrice Luigi Gomez walks strong and proud in shimmering gold evening gown
Beatrice Luigi Gomez is dripping Filipino gold at the 2021 Miss Universe pageant’s coronation night in Eilat, Israel on Monday (Philippine time).
The “out and proud” Philippine representative made it to the Final Five in an alluring Francis Libiran creation embellished with an intricate “Pintados” embroidery inspired by an indigenous Filipino tribal pattern.
The gold couture gown also features Libiran’s signature art deco aesthetic and thousands of carefully hand-sewn crystals which, the designer says, “represents hope and unparalleled beauty, culture, history and traditions of the Philippines.”
Beatrice, who hails from Cebu City, made history in September after becoming the first openly out member of the LGBTQIA+ community to win the Miss Universe Philippines crown.
The competition, which is on its 70th edition, is hosted by Emmy Award winner Steve Harvey.
The star-studded and all-female panel of judges includes Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, supermodel Adriana Lima, TV host Adamari López, actresses Urvashi Rautela, Rena Sofer, Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere and Steve Harvey’s daughter Lori Harvey.
Should she win, Beatrice would be the fifth Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe. — LA, GMA News
