An eco-friendly credit card? Here’s one made with non-edible corn
Did you know that there’s a new eco-friendly and sustainable credit card in town and it’s made with biodegradable and non-edible corn?
Zalora has launched the Philippines’ first eco-friendly and sustainable credit card in partnership with RCBC Bankard and Mastercard.
During the launch of the Zalora Credit Card on Thursday, RCBC Bankard president and CEO Arniel Vincent B. Ong said it was “made of 84% biodegradable material non-edible corn.”
“We think it’s a game-charger for being the first in the country to issue an eco-friendly credit card,” he said in the virtual press launch.
“It’s sustainable it doesn’t create a lot of waste, it doesn’t create a lot of plastic.”
Ong said the country’s first-ever sustainable credit card was developed in partnership with card provider Thales.
“Can you imagine how much plastic and PVC is produced by credit card issuers or card issuers around the world?” he said.
“We’ve partnered with Thales which is a card provider in producing this eco-friendly credit card and we’re very happy to be launching this in the market.”
Aside from the sustainability aspect of the credit card, it is also packed with fashion and lifestyle benefits and freebies.
There is a wide array of offers and rewards for cardholders who will shop for fashion, beauty, sports, home, kids, and luxury items from one of the 3,500 local or international brands available on the Zalora platform.
For Heart Evangelista, Zalora Philippines’ celebrity ambassador, “online shopping has become a love language for me and many others especially during this pandemic.”
In a special “Z-Live” episode on the Zalora app, she added: “It’s a great way to find simple joys packed in self-care while also showing your loved ones you care for them even if you can’t be with them physically.”
The Zalora Credit Card has a welcome gift worth PHP5,000 shopping credits which can be used on the shopping platform and a one-year Zalora Now subscription for unlimited free shipping nationwide with no minimum spend.
Annual fee of the credit card is also waived by RCBC for its first year.
On top of all these, the credit card has a six-percent Zalora Cashback for every item purchased on the platform.
It also offers a two-percent Zalora Cashback for other online purchases made on other websites and apps.
One reward point is also earned for every PHP50 spent on all other purchases.
Shoppers can convert their rewards points as additional Zalora Cashback or air miles for free travel, or it can also be used for annual membership fee, or as a donation to any of their partner organizations. – RC, GMA News
