The Miss Ilocos Norte 2021 pageant caused a huge buzz on social media after the gorgeous hopefuls showcased their jaw-dropping costumes in a virtual fashion show.
In a live version of the costume show aired on GMA-7's "Unang Hirit," the new Miss Ilocos Norte titleholder Lyza Katrina Samalio walked the runway in a fish-inspired costume that paid tribute to the fishermen of her hometown, Pagudpud.
First runner-up Iweeh Hugal Alejoof Nueva Era emerged in a massive bird-inspired ensemble accentuated with stunning woven pattern, while second runner up Julia Yzabelle Andrei Echepare of Vintar wore a colorful costume highlighted with a woven basket headpiece.
In an interview after the show, Samalio said being crowned Miss Ilocos Norte 2021 meant a lot to her because she would be able to continue school, thanks to a scholarship.
The beauty queen said she also hoped to help Ilocano creatives who were struggling amid the pandemic, as well as promote Ilocos Norte's tourism industry.
