Filipino toy artist Quiccs collaborates with adidas for Manila-themed shirt
Sportswear and lifestyle brand adidas partnered with award-winning local toy artist Quiccs for the first Philippine-made product by the German brand.
Inspired by Manila's streets and hoop culture, the Quiccs Manila Tee pack will be launched on Friday, October 23.
A self-confessed basketball fan, Quiccs said he wanted to represent the Philippines in his designs for the shirts, as seen in the main character TEQ63, which has the colors of the Philippine flag, as well as some elements like the sun and the stars.
"I really wanted people around the world to know that it's from the Philippines by just seeing the shirt," Quiccs said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
The collaboration with adidas is a dream come true for the award-winning artist. "I'm just a random kid from the Philippines and now I can say that I'm a creator for adidas," Quiccs proudly said.
In a statement, adidas said the new line "looks to redefine creative culture with releases that are made in Manila and made for the world."
"Quiccs has embodied the type of Creator we look for and we’re proud to officially launch the Quiccs Manila Tee, the first of many releases from this collaboration,” added Jen Dacasin, adidas Philippines Brand Communications and Sports Marketing Manager.
Apart from the shirt design, Quiccs said he looks forward to designing more for Adidas.
"I do want to expand to other merchandise in the future," he said.
Quiccs bagged the Artist of the Year and Toy of the Year awards at the Designer Toy Awards in New York City for the past two years. — LA, GMA News
