Catriona Gray to promote Philippine textiles, fashion as OTOP Ambassador
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is set to promote Philippine textiles and modern designs as part of her duties after being named the ambassador for the Philippines' One Town One Product (OTOP) Program.
In a statement, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the beauty queen will bring attention to the Modernong Obra Disenyong Atin (MODA) initiative.
The project aims to highlight Filipino history and culture through MODA weavers' designs, textiles and patterns by way of modern fashion, and by collaborating with local designers to promote entrepreneurship and help the weaver communities to expand their market.
Gray will also partner with 64 weaving communities across the Philippines, representing all the regions, as well as 47 OTOPreneur designers.
To recall, Gray promoted Philippine textiles during the Miss Universe 2018 pageant, where she wore pieces made by local fashion designers.
"This partnership is a perfect match because just like Ms. Gray, we would like our OTOP Next Gen products to be as beautiful inside and out and to be as modern yet very Filipina," said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.
"We love how Ms. Catriona is showing her love for country and helping the Philippine MSME sector—especially in this difficult time of the pandemic—by raising awareness not only in the country but also worldwide," he added. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
