Local fashion brands donate PPEs to hospitals to support COVID-19 frontliners
Local fashion brands are donating Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help and support frontliners who are battling against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines.
Kamiseta and Penshoppe are doing their part during this difficult time to help flatten the curve.
According to a blog post on Kamiseta's website, the fashion company has provided 1,000 sets of PPEs to the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital to refill supplies for their health workers.
"Even from afar, we stand together with our dear doctors and nurses," Kamiseta CEO Cris Roque said.
Roque has a sister who is also a doctor which is why she deeply empathized with the frontliners as they experience scarcity amid their battle against COVID-19.
In the blog, Roque said she believes the doctors and other health workers should be the first to receive protection as more and more patients flock to hospitals.
Meanwhile, Penshoppe is currently working to urgently produce fashionable PPEs with the help of the factories of their vendor partners to be distributed to the frontliners.
"In this light, we are working with the factories of our vendor partners to produce urgently needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for distribution amongst our brave healthcare workers," their post read on Facebook.
On Penshoppe's Instagram account, the brand updated its followers on the PPEs by sharing a video of the process and photos of the PPE prototype they have produced.
"An update on our promise: Production of medical suits already ongoing - for delivery soon," Penshoppe wrote on Instagram.

Aside from PPEs, Penshoppe and their sister brands have also sent out surgical masks to hospitals including UERM Memorial Hospital, Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial Hospital, Balibago Polyclinic and Hospital and Lingap General Hospital.
Shortage of PPEs has been among the first concerns of the Philippines in its fight against COVID-19. Many hospitals have cried for help early on, as they put their staff on quarantine after being exposed to the virus.
As of April 11, COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 4,428 with 247 deaths and 157 recoveries. — LA, GMA News
