GENDERLESS FASHION

Rising fashion trend blurs the line between genders

Ladies and gentlemen, genderless fashion is breaking the barrier.

More and more, we see women preferring to step out in baggy pants, and men elevate their OOTDs with a feminine touch.

And it's not just out on the runway:  Timothee Chalamet walked the red carpet in an all-fuschia Stella McCartney suit, and girls can't get enough of Billie Eilish's far-from-girly signature aesthetic.

But what is genderless fashion?

As Filipino fashion designer and design school instructor Louis Claparols explained in a report on "State of the Nation with Jessica Soho," this fashion trend is "blurring the lines between genders."

"'Yung pang-babae, puwedeng pang-lalaki, 'yung paglalaki, puwedeng pang-babae. It works both ways," he said.

The report featured the genderless creations of Neil Anthony, a young design student, who had a memorable experience in highschool when he dared to dress differently from other boys.

"Noong high school ako, naka-skinny pants ako na cropped, tapos naka-loafers ako na may heel ng kaunti. Tapos naka-polo ako na medyo fit," he shared.

"Na-guidance (office) ako dahil sa suot ko, tapos (sabi ko), parang, ano po bang mali sa suot ko?"

Claparols, however, expressed confidence that a breakthrough in fashion reflects a change in the views of the world.

"Na-focus talaga siya sa spot light because I guess nowadays, the LGBTQ has a stronger presence in civil society and stronger voice, so parang, now, everyone is into gender equality and all."

Veteran fashionista Tessie Singson, also known as "Lola Androgynous," and her son JP Singson, a stylist, also share the belief that clothing doesn't have to gender-specific.

"Kasi mahilig din akong magsuot ng boys' clothing, 'yung pants, then yung button-down shirt. Kasi I'm more comfortable 'pag nagsusuot ng men's wear," Tessie told GMA News.

"Kung ano 'yung nafi-feel ko, kung ano 'yung gusto kong gagawin ko at isu-suot ko, regardless 'yung ibang tao kung ano ang iniisip. For me, where I feel comfortable and happy," she added.

Check out some of her OOTDs, and take a leaf out of her book!
