Beware! Cash-on-delivery modus now targeting online shoppers

Have you become an online shop-a-holic?

If it's come to the point where you can't keep track of your orders, you should know about this new modus that almost duped a customer of as much as P12,000.

In an episode of "Brigada," a confessed online shopping addict, Jaydee Mendoza, shared that he once got a text from an unknown number informing him that his "order has arrived" and that he had to pay cash on delivery (COD) immediately.

The texter asked for his name, address and valid ID so he can deliver a cleaning device that he supposedly ordered and was worth P12,000.

"Actually in-offer-an pa niya ako na puwede namang hulugan."

Luckily, Jaydee knew better and fiercely told the scammer to stop trying to trick people for money.

But not everyone was able to call the bluff.

A netizen recently shared her experience wherein a man arrived at her doorstep with a supposed COD package for her husband.

And because she couldn't call him to check, she just paid for it and realized too late that the "order" was only a pair of old shoes with a cup inside.

So next time, it's better to be mindful about what you "add to your cart." —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
