Aquaria is in Manila to launch fashion collaboration

She’s made a name for herself in the beauty and fashion world since becoming the youngest winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 10). She’s one of the very few drag queens to ever be invited to attend the prestigious MET Gala in New York City.

At 23, she’s become the face of MAC Viva Glam, Nyx, Moschino, and even graced the Vogue Italia with her gag-worthy “lewks.” And now, the Age of Aquaria has arrived in Manila!

Aquaria is currently in Manila to launch her collaboration with The SM Store. While she personally curated the small collection of five key trends, Aquaria hadn’t realized how big the campaign was going to be.

“It definitely started clicking when I first saw the press releases, [getting tagged] in photos of 50-foot billboards of me on the side of the highway,” Aquaria told GMA News Online on Monday afternoon before her first Philippine gig.

‘It’s definitely a dream come true. It’s a little crazy, kind of overwhelming, but I love it,” she beamed, donning her bright yellow feather jacket and her face perfectly beat for the gods.

Her collection features clothes, shoes, bags, and accessories in five key trends: Animal prints, geometric prints, metallic looks, street looks, and everything red.

According to Aquaria, It was the opportunity to work in the other side of the planet that piqued her interest. In doing the photo shoot alone, Aquaria worked with her stylist in curating the pieces that will be included, making sure it (1) exuded big drag energy and (2) expressed her own style and character in every frame.

“Even when I have a stylist, I love to kind of get in the way and make some choices of my own,” she explained, pointing to mother monster Lady Gaga and the legendary pop icon Madonna as her main influences. During the interview, she mentioned wanting to be Naomi Campbell.

It was this unique take on fashion that caught the eye of the people from The SM  Store, one of the reasons why Aquaria’s name was always on top of the list when they were still conceptualizing the collection.

“Aquaria is known as ‘the look queen’, so we really wanted to highlight her fashion. She has really made a name for herself in the fashion world. She’s very easy to work with and she’s very collaborative,” Fiona Araneta, The SM Store’s senior marketing manager, shared with GMA News Online.

“The collection is definitely bold, it’s fun, and it’s fashionable,” Geo Custodio of The SM Store said. — LA, GMA News

It’s currently available at SM Premier malls.
