Catriona Gray wore the Mikimoto crown as her evening gown, PHL flag as earrings
Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray has claimed it. The Filipino-Australian beauty queen was already wearing the Mikimoto crown during the preliminary competition held Thursday — sewn right into her gown.
Her evening gown, designed by Mak Tumang, was inspired by two things: the Ibong Adarna from Philippine folklore and the Mikimoto crown for Miss Universe.
The Mikimoto crown itself is inspired by the feathers of a Phoenix and according to Tumang, the Ibong Adarna has been "liken it to the mythological Phoenix where it recurrently regenerates itself by arising amidst a spectacle of flames and candescence."
But Catriona's "paandar" in symbolism doesn't stop there. She wore the now famous ear cuffs for Binibining Pilipinas and for Miss Universe, the three stars and a sun dangled from her ears.
The 67th Miss Universe pageant coronation will be held in Thailand, December 17. Reigning queen Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will be crowning her successor. — AT, GMA News
