Rajo Laurel's ‘Archipelago’ collection in focus for 10th Red Charity Gala
This year the Red Charity Gala celebrates its 10th year and they are putting the spotlight on the creations of the inimitable fashion designer Rajo Laurel.
Rajo presented a preview of his collection called "Archipelago" — which is also his 25th year anniversary collection — during the press launch on Wednesday for the highly anticipated goodwill event.
Rajo considers this collection as his "personal essay on trying to put a finger and establish what is Philippine design, what is Philippine fashion." Around 90 to 95 pieces will be showcased on the Red Charity Gala event.
"Archipelago" stays true to its name, with Rajo's artistic representation of the Philippine islands splashed on his formidable creations. At the media launch, he presented three glamorous dresses in the collection including, "Mayon", "Tuguegarao", and "Taal."
"We're showcasing also the scale of the Filipino artisan in the collection not only in the design but also in the hand, we're celebrating that."
Rajo revealed that modern indigenous materials, all sourced from the different provinces of the our beautiful island of the Philippines, will be featured in 75% of the collection.
Rajo will be joined by his fellow Filipino designers Dennis Lustico, Furne One, Michael Cinco, Cary Santiago, Ezra Santos, Jojie Lloren, Lesley Mobo, Chito Vijandre, and Joey Samson.
Red Charity Gala will also be partnering with local retail brand Bench as its main presenter.
A thousand guests are expected to arrive at the gala. This year's new beneficiary will be the MINT School of Fashion. The organizers have partnered with the Meridian International College to help build a scholarship fund for aspiring designers.
The Red Charity Gala will be held on October 27 at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriot Hotel Manila. — AT, GMA News
