A quick guide to S Maison

S Maison is the 62nd supermall of retail giant SM. Located on the first two floors of Conrad Manila Hotel in the sprawling Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City, S Maison has a decidedly upscale, luxurious feel which is quite different from almost every other SM mall that attracts huge crowds of regular, everyday folk.

At 25,534 square meters, the mall is one of SM’s smallest (by comparison, SM Megamall has a total retail floor area of 474,000 square meters), but it’s certainly one of the prettiest. There’s an unmistakable sheen when you enter, courtesy of the “lustrous surface treatments,” which SM says is inspired by the idea of the Philippines as the Pearl of the Orient.

The mall has been operating for about a year, but the grand launch happened just last week. Retail stores put on a fashion show while the restaurants provided guests with samples of their signature dishes specially curated by food consultant and writer JJ Yulo.

So what's available at this small, upscale shopping destination?

For one thing, a really exclusive cinema viewing experience: S Maison has three Director’s Club cinemas that can each accommodate 38 movie lovers.

There are also a few retail shops and restaurants that you shouldn’t miss:

True Religion – This is the American designer clothing company’s flagship store in the country. Expect a wide selection of jeans, shorts, tops and other fashion staples.

Joseph – Joseph is an upscale British brand that specializes in impeccable tailoring and classic styles. The first standalone boutique in Asia is in SM Aura. The one at S Maison is its flagship store in the Philippines.

Urban Athletics – Owned by the same guy who owns the Toby’s Sports chain of sports stores (Toby Claudio), Urban Athletics offers the latest and hippest styles of streetwear, particularly sneakers from all the top brands like Adidas, Nike, Puma, New Balance, Asics and others.

Titan – It’s really a store that sells almost anything and everything related to basketball—footwear, apparel and accessories. But it also has an attached barbershop so you can get a trim before or after buying your Air Jordans.

Paris Miki – The brand is one of Japan’s largest eyewear retailers and has been in existence since 1930. They sell a wide variety of frames and sunglasses from international brands like Jimmy Choo, Dior, Prada, Rayban and Bvlgari.

Rossini – Italian restaurant Rossini is from the same guy behind Buona Vita Restaurant in Alabang. They specialize in hearty, slow-cooked fare like Salmon Carpaccio, Veal Osso Bucco, Steak Tartare and a variety of pizzas and pastas.

Tsujiri – Tsujiri is a Japanese green tea shop that’s been around for 150 years. Anyone who likes matcha will find something to love here. Try the Tsujiri Sundae, O-Matcha, and Matcha Lava Cake. — BM, GMA News
