New year, new hobbies: 5 activities to try in 2025

New year, new hobbies: 5 activities to try in 2025

It's never too late to start!

As we welcome the new year, there’s no better time to dive into new hobbies and activities to make life more enjoyable and, perhaps, more productive.

Leave your comfort zones in 2024 and dedicate time in 2025 to hone new interests — may it be a new hobby, trying new activities you haven’t done before, or learning a new skill — you name it.

In case you need some ideas, here are five things to try in 2025:

Join a run club

The previous year saw an emergence of people getting into running, all thanks to Strava, an innovative app used to track physical exercises, such as running and cycling, that you can share on social media.

If you want to kickstart your running journey this 2025 but feel lost about where to start, joining a run club might help.

In Metro Manila, several run clubs and fitness communities are available for you to join, including the Rockwell Run Club, the Red Light Run Club, and the Adidas Runners Club, to name a few.

Hike with strangers

Hiking may initially seem intimidating, especially if you don’t do it with the people you know. But if you want to challenge yourself this year, consider the adventure of hiking with strangers as a way to step out of your comfort zone.

On Facebook, Akyat Bundok Joiners is one of the hike communities offering a tailored itinerary for a group of solo or hikers – all you have to do is pay the fee, mentally and physically prepare yourself for the trip, and enjoy the view of the Philippine mountains, such as Mt. Ulap, Mt. Amuyao, and Mt. Daraitan, among others.

Join a book club

For book lovers, there’s no better way to share your love for books than discussing it with like-minded individuals.

In Taguig, there’s a BGC Book Club where you can meet a community of book lovers to discuss good reads with different themes each month.

Meanwhile, if you’re the silent type of reader, the Silent Book Club Manila is for you. This group organizes silent reading sessions and other activities related to being a bibliophile.

Engage in mindful retreats

If wellness is your goal for 2025, joining mindful retreats occasionally may help nurture your inner peace.

Established in 2019, Soulspeak offers retreats and gatherings all over the Philippines for people seeking respite from the daily grind.

The retreat schedules are all year round, beginning on January 25 to 26 at the Anahaw Farm and Resort in Lipa, Batangas.

Learn pottery

For those who want to learn a new skill for 2025, why not try pottery?

Pottery is a unique way to have fun, express yourself through design, and enjoy peaceful moments while at it.

If you want to unleash your inner creativity, Bumi and Ashe in Quezon City are hosting several pottery classes combined with other workshops such as jewelry-making classes and wine and snacks tasting. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
