'Liwanag sa Dilim' musical to be staged in March 2025

A "Liwanag sa Dilim" musical featuring the songs of OPM icon Rico Blanco will be staged in March 2025.

The announcement was made by 9 Works Theatrical on the closing night of "Once on This Island" on Sunday.

At the end of the show, Kapuso Pop Rocker Anthony Rosaldo came on stage and hyped the crowd by leading the singing of "Liwanag sa Dilim" with the entire cast of "Once on This Island."

Kapuso Soul Balladeer Garrett Bolden and Jordan Andrews, who played Agwe and the Storyteller in "Once on This Island," respectively, then joined Anthony in the announcement of the upcoming original Filipino musical.

In a post on social media, 9 Works Theatrical shared that the musical will be directed by Robbie Guevara, who is also its writer.

Guevara was also the director of "Once on This Island" and the theater company's stagings of other award-winning musicals, including "Grease," "La Cage aux Folles," "Tick, Tick... Boom!" and "Rent."

9 Works Theatrical also produced the Filipino musical "Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!" and co-produced "Himala: Isang Musikal" with The Sandbox Collective.

"Liwanag sa Dilim" will be held at the RCBC Plaza in Makati City. Other details such as the cast and show dates have yet to be announced.
