Miss World Philippines defends Krishnah Gravidez, after 'guess the bill challenge' backlash

Miss World Philippines (MWP) has come to the defense of current title holder Krishnah Gravidez after the backlash of the viral "Guess the Bill challenge" video.

In a statement issued on social media late Thursday, MWP said "the video in question does not reflect Krishnah's true character or the values that she upholds."

Calling the video a "lighthearted moment among friends meant tone shared in private," MWP said it was uploaded online without Krishnah's consent, which in turn led to "misunderstandings about her intention."

"Despite this, Krishna has taken full responsibility for the situation and has expressed her deep regret for any misconceptions that may have arisen," the statement continued.

MWP described the reigning queen as "a person of integrity, compassion and dedication to her advocacy of 'color the world with kindness.'"

"Her genuine heart for service is evident in the countless initiatives she has supported, and she continues to be an inspiring role model for many Philippines," MWP added.

"We stand by Krishnah Marie Gravidez and her continued efforts to represent that country with grace, dignity, and purpose. We ask for understanding and trust that she will continue to exemplify the values of Miss World Philippines in all her endeavors," MWP said.

On her Instagram account meanwhile, Krishnah apologized "for the misunderstanding and controversy" and said she deeply regrets any negative impressions that the viral video may have caused.

"While it was all done in the spirit of fun among company, I've realized that my actions are perceived differently by others," she said.

The beauty queen clarified she was only an invited guess, "did not pay the same amount and in no way was my participant on the video meant to promote or glorify an extravagant lifestyle."

"As Miss World Philippines 2024, I am fully aware of my role and the responsibilities that come with it, especially in aligning with the organizations advocacy for charity and compassion," Krishnah said.

Calling the experience "a humbling reminder" to be mindful in her actions, Krishnah promised to be more cautious in the future.

"Thank you to everyone who continues to support me, and I hope to move forward from this incident with more wisdom and grace."

In a now-deleted TikTok video by Emmanuelle Atienza, Krishnah participated in the game, where they guessed the amount of their dinner. She won, with the closest guess to the total bill of more than P130,000.

Emmanuelle Atienza, the 18-year-old daughter of Kim Atienza, also took to social media to explain that the challenge was just a joke.
