Vet shares tips on how to help pets if they get caught on glue board

One dog got caught in a sticky situation after it found itself trapped on a glue board.

According to "Kuya Kim Ano Na?" on "24 Oras" on Tuesday, the shih tzu got trapped on a glue board used to catch pests, prompting its fur mom to immediately remove its fur from the trap.

Per Kuya Kim, some glue boards contain chemicals, like petroleum, that may not be safe for pets.

Dr. Sean Evan Javier, a veterinarian, shared that glue traps can cause vomiting, scarring in the intestines, and skin irritation among pets if ingested.

"Yung paghugot nung balahibo pwedeng magkasugat, pwedeng mag-cause ng infection. Mataas ‘yung chance na ma-suffocate siya," said Javier.

He also gave helpful tips on what fur parents can do if ever their pets find themselves in a similar sticky situation.

"Cooking oil or baby oil, ibabad natin sandali sa mainit na tubig hanggang sa maging katamtaman ‘yung init. ‘Yung hindi naman nakakapaso," he advised.

Afterward, one should carefully use a thick towel to hold the part of their pet that is stuck on the glue board.

"Siguraduhin na hindi siya dapat masasakal. Kailangan dahan dahan na imasahe 'yung mantika sa balahibo ng aso na dumikit sa glueboard. Kailangan paulit-ulit 'yung pagmamasahe. Wag nating mamadaliin kasi masakit po ‘yun," he added.

Once freed, the pet should be allowed to rest and given cold compress to lessen its pain. Usually, it is recommended for their fur to be shaved off to get rid of any glue residue.

"Irerekomenda ‘yan, kadalasan aahitan lahat para malinis, mas mapabilis at mapaganda ‘yung tubo ng buhok," said Javier.
