‘Rings of Power’ star Charlie Vickers shares favorite part about being in ‘The Lord of the Rings’

The second season of “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” is proving to be an exciting one for its fans and stars alike.

Charlie Vickers, who plays human Halbrand, elf Annatar, and now the legendary villain Sauron in the series, says it's been such a happy experience to be part of the series as he has long been a fan of the franchise.

“I think telling this story [is the best part] and telling a story that a lot of fans know and really care about,” the Australian actor told GMA Network broadcaster Lyn Ching in an interview at the series’ Asian premiere in Singapore.

“And us, I can speak for myself as a fan, I was so excited to tell this story because it’s the first, like, major part of the lore that we can really tell in terms of the big events of the second age.”

Charlie also spoke about how his character as Halbrand is well-loved but will be hated as Sauron. But he said the villain has his own redeeming qualities.

“I think he wants to do right by everyone in Middle Earth. He just wants Middle Earth to be nice and green and beautiful. He wants everyone to be happy and the way for them to be happy is to listen to him and do what he wants,” Charlie said.

According to a press release, Prime Video said the new season builds on the grand scale and aspirations of the first season.

“As friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good—Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots—will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all: each other.”

Aside from Charlie, the series stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Maxim Baldry, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sam Hazeldine, Ema Horvath, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Benjamin Walker, and Daniel Weyman.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 premiered on Prime Video on August 29, Thursday.
