HistoEx: Lectures, films, games, more await at history and heritage expo this weekend

The Buwan ng Kasaysayan and Buwan ng Wika revelries continue!

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has pulled out all the stops to make the largest gathering of history and heritage groups in the country happen.

"HistoEx: Where History and Experience Converge," will run this weekend from Aug. 23 to 25 at the Quantum Skyview, Gateway Mall 2, Quezon City.

The history and heritage exposition will be jam-packed with activities, from lectures, book sales and exhibits to workshops, performances, reenactments, and more.

Various historians, artists, and cultural workers are set to grace the event for HistoEx Talks throughout the three days.

Guests include filmmaker Jose Lorenzo "Pepe" Diokno, historian Dr. Michael "Xiao" Chua, political analyst Richard Heydarian, choreographer and director Dexter Santos, artist Emmanuel Garibay, and NHCP history researcher Ian Christopher Alfonso.

Military reenactors from Historia Vivente Manila (HVN) will also open and cap off the exposition with demonstrations of authentic late 19th century close order drills by the Army of the First Philippine Republic.

Visitors can also check out HVM's mini-booth and exhibit of uniforms within the Nilad Community booth at the expo.

Three documentaries by the NHCP will be screened during the event: "Ang Santo Niño sa Kultura at Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas" (Aug. 23), "Kaagi: The Philippines and the First Circumnavigation" (Aug. 24), and "GOMBURZA" (Aug. 25).

A meet and greet with book signing will also be held at the expo, as well as history games, a Baybayin workshop, a sketch crawl, a free live sketching, performances by the Quezon City Symphonic Band, and more.

Check out HistoEx's calendar of activities so you can plan your visit ahead!

HistoEx was made possible through the support of the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, Gateway Gallery, Gateway Mall, and Araneta City.

The NHCP officially kicked off History Month this August with the theme "Salaysay ng Bayan, Saysay ng Bansa (Stories of the People, Essence of the Nation)" and enjoined the public to take part in its celebration through exciting activities organized nationwide.

History Month or Buwan ng Kasaysayan is celebrated every August by virtue of Proclamation No. 339, s. 2012, and coincides with the celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
