New 'One Piece' anime reveals concept art, shares glimpse of production
In case you missed it, Eiichiro Oda's "One Piece" is getting a brand new anime series!
Produced by Wit Studio, the new adaptation, titled "The One Piece," will be directed by "Attack on Titan" director Masashi Koizuka. Netflix first announced the project in December 2023.
Earlier this week, Netflix shared a glimpse of Wit Studio's journey of producing the series with a feature video.
"There was never an animation that was recreated from the top while it was still being produced," said Ryuta Koike, producer from Toei Animation, the company also behind the original and ongoing anime.
"I feel that expanding the 'root' of 'One Piece' is the same for both studios. I feel we are a 'nakama,'" he added.
Both manga and anime series are still ongoing, although both are in the final saga of the story.
"The One Piece" will first adapt the East Blue Saga, but the producers and animators hope to continue the project long-term.
"I'm facing this as a long series," said director Koizuka. "If people like what we've created, we know we would be creating this in the long run and if it does, it means this work is loved by many."
"I want to continue for a long period and create this forever," he added.
Oda's "One Piece" has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997.
In 2023, Netflix released its live action adaptation of the manga, and it became a huge global hit.
Season 2 is currently in production, with new castings for key characters such as Smoker and Tashigi. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
