NHCP kicks off History Month with exciting activities nationwide
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has officially kicked off History Month!
History Month or Buwan ng Kasaysayan is celebrated every August by virtue of Proclamation No. 339, s. 2012, and coincides with the celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
This 2024, the NHCP launched History Month with the theme "Salaysay ng Bayan, Saysay ng Bansa (Stories of the People, Essence of the Nation)" and enjoined the public to take part in the celebration of History Month nationwide.
On social media, the NHCP shared its calendar of activities, teeming with exciting events that will be happening throughout the whole month of August. Here's a glimpse of what awaits.
'Tagubilin: The Life Lessons of Gregoria de Jesus' exhibit
On Monday, the "Tagubilin: The Life Lessons of Gregoria de Jesus" exhibit was launched at the Bulwagang Rodriguez in Manila City Hall.
The exhibit showcases ten paintings featuring the 10 pieces of advice that the revolutionary wrote at the end of her biography on Nov. 5, 1928. It is part of the preparations for Oriang's 150th birth anniversary in 2025, as well as the festivities this History Month.
The exhibit is on view until Aug. 16.
GSIS Museo ng Sining activities
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Museo ng Sining is also holding activities this week in collaboration with the NHCP.
Catch talks by historians Dr. Jaime Veneracion, Dr. Lars Raymund Ubaldo, and Dr. Michael "Xiao" Chua on Thursday, Aug. 8, and talks by Dr. Ambeth Ocampo and Dr. Emmanuel Calairo on Friday, Aug. 9.
The museum will also hold fun games for all on Saturday, Aug. 10.
'Touch the Artists' Vision (TAV) 2.0 Museum Unboxed Travels' exhibit
The TAV 2.0 Museum Unboxed Travels exhibit was also launched at the Philippine National School of the Blind (PNSB) in the past week and will soon be on view at the Philippine School for the Deaf (PSD).
With the theme "Breaker Barriers: A Multi-Sensory Exploration of Arts and History for All," the extraordinary exhibit aims to reach persons with disabilities who may find it difficult to visit museums and galleries.
The exhibit is organized by the NHCP, alongside the Rotary Club of San Juan del Monte, PNSB, PSD, Mayniland Water Services Inc., and Maynilad Water Academy.
The exhibit will be open to the public at PSD on Aug. 6 and 7.
Other activities that also await this month include Karaban ng Kasaysayan para sa Kabataan, HistoEX, GSIS Museum Historian's Fair, the 2024 National Conference on Local History and Heritage, and many more.
