'Squid Game' to end with Season 3; Season 2 to premiere this December

"Squid Game" is coming back this December — but is set to end next year.

Netflix on Thursday announced that Season 2 will premiere on December 26, and that  2 will premiere on December 26, 2024 and that the final season is coming in 2025.

Hwang Dong Hyuk, the executive producer, writer and director of the series said, "I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new 'Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story."

According to a statement from Netflix, Season 2 will take place three years after the events of "Squid Game." Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport.

However, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.

Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo will reprise their roles from Season 1 with an impeccable list of new cast members including Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Uk, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ae Sim, Lee David, Choi Seung Hyun, Roh Jae Won, Jo Yu Ri, and Won Ji An rounding out the ensemble of colorful characters in the new season. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
