‘Shrek 5’ is happening, to be released in 2026

Hey now, the “All Star” is back.

“Shrek 5,” the newest installment in the animated film franchise, is happening and will be released in theaters on July 1, 2026.

According to a Facebook announcement, Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively.

The “Shrek” films follow the bright green ogre and titular character, and his hilarious adventures involving various fairytale characters. He marries Princess Fiona of Far Far Away, whereas Donkey is his trusty sidekick.

The last film of the franchise, “Shrek Forever After” was released in 2010, where Shrek is stressed out about the responsibilities of being a family man and gets tricked by Rumpelstiltskin into going back to his life of solitude.
