'Tomb Raider' live-action adaptation in the works at Prime Video

The streaming platform has announced that it ordered a live-action "Tomb Raider" series adaptation, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge set as writer and executive producer.

According to the Tomb Raider website, the project comes as part of a deal between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios.

Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games have previously announced that they're collaborating for a new "Tomb Raider" game. It will be the "next chapter to Lara Croft’s legendary explorations in the Tomb Raider franchise."

“If I could tell my teenage self that this was happening, I think she’d explode," Waller-Bridge said. "Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all."

Prime Video is behind the successful series "Fallout," based on the popular video game franchise of the same name.

The "Tomb Raider" video game franchise follows the adventures of archaeologist and treasure hunter Lara Croft, who travels around the world in search of artifacts.

It birthed spin-off games, comics, and feature films. Among those who portrayed Lara Croft include Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
