7 new things in Stardew Valley after the big 1.6 update

7 new things in Stardew Valley after the big 1.6 update

It's been a week since ConcernedApe released the much anticipated 1.6 update to Stardew Valley, and we're all still discovering new things.

The update hit PCs on March 20 and is set to roll out on consoles and mobile "as soon as possible."

Here are some of the fun new stuff that players are having a ball with:

1. New farm type

The biggest thing in the update is no doubt the Meadowlands Farm, a new farm type that offers a whole new gaming experience.

To start, you don't get free parsnip seeds, but rather 15 pieces of hay. This is because the farm comes with a coop and two chickens, which saves you a ton of money and resources early game.

Notably, there is also blue grass on the ground, along with the usual green.

Outside the farm, there are new visual elements, too. One word: waterfalls!

2. More pets

You can now have multiple pets in Stardew Valley.

If one cat or dog is not enough for you, the update allows you to adopt more, although

you need to get max hearts with your starter pet first.

There is now an animals tab where you can check your relationship with your pets and animals.

Additionally, Marnie now sells dog houses and cat houses, and Robin can build you more pet bowls.

And most importantly — you can put hats on them!

3. Fishing festivals

Can't get enough of fishing?

The update introduced two new mini festivals: the Trout Derby and the SquidFest.

Head to the Cindersnap Forest in spring, and the beach in winter to join the fishing contest. The more you catch, the more prizes you get.

4. Jelly, moss, seeds

Doing everyday tasks and activities is now even more fun because you get some interesting new things.

Moss can now be harvested from certain trees and later used for crafting. Fishing can now yield sea jelly, river jelly, and even cave jelly. They give you energy and health when consumed.

Players can now also unearth new seeds every season — carrots for spring, squash for summer, broccoli for fall, powdermelon for winter.

Yes, you can now plant things outside in winter!

5. Artisan goods have different looks

Prayers were answered when ConcernedApe made changes to the aesthetics of certain artisan goods.

Jelly, pickles, wine, and juices — produced via preserves jars and kegs — are now colored based on the ingredients used to make them.

Additionally, players can now drink mayonnaise. The townsfolk have hilarious reactions to it — lots of "Umm..." and "Gross!" and "Why?!"

6. Winter outfits

The people of Stardew Valley got glow ups for the winter.

New outfits for NPCs were introduced in the update — Caroline looks like Christmas, Sam's looking real good with his beanie, and Sebastian looks cozy with his scarf.

Speaking of NPcs, they have new dialogues, too.

(Warning: Spoiler-y event ahead!)

7. Green rain

There's a new event in the game called "green rain," which prompts a series of strange occurrences.

The rain, which is indeed green, sheds an unnatural tinge everywhere on the day it makes landfall. The bizarre occurrence prompts new dialogues from villagers, a lot of whom are worried about what it could mean.

More importantly, with the green rain comes new trees, and a ton of weeds and moss. So yay for the extra wood and fiber!

Overall, Stardew Valley 1.6 gives players more and more and more — new hats, new furniture, new secrets, new powers. There's a prize machine in Mayor Lewis' house, a bunch of mystery boxes can be found by chance anywhere, there's a slew of new items in the Traveling Cart, a bookseller comes to town every once in a while.

One thing's for sure, the charm and magic doesn't run out in the Valley.

Stardew Valley was released in 2016.

ConcernedApe has also been working on a new game called Haunted Chocolatier. —GMA Integrated News
